Aspirus Specialty Pharmacy in Wausau, WI is seeking a PHARMACY TECHNICIAN to join ourPHARMACY team!
A Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmacy operations across hospital, retail, or specialty pharmacy settings. This position will report to the Pharmacy Manager or Supervisor and will operate under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role will assist in the preparation, distribution, and delivery of medications, maintain inventory, perform clerical duties, and utilize pharmacy technology and patient record systems. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience that contributes directly to patient safety and satisfaction while offering opportunities for growth and development.
HOURS: Full Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every pay period, 8-hour weekday day shifts
DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS:
Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience and participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.*
Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, patient and staff safety. Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.*
Maintains department specific accountabilities as determined, maintained, and housed within each unit's scope of service as applicable.*
Maintains compliance with all Aspirus policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Aspirus Employee Handbook, Aspirus Code of Conduct and Service Excellence Standards.*
Prepare, fill, deliver, and restock medications accurately and efficiently.
Operate pharmacy technology systems and electronic health records.
Stock medications and supplies within the pharmacy department.
Identify and remove expired or compromised medications
Handle medication disposal, returns, and reverse distribution.
Package and repackage medications for distribution.
Ensure timely and secure delivery of medications to designated areas.
Manage controlled substances in accordance with Aspirus policies.
Perform clerical tasks including documentation and vendor coordination.
Process medication charges and credits promptly.
Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.
Perform metric-based calculations for medication preparation.
Maintain emergency medication kits and controlled substance logs.
Ensure accurate inventory levels and compliance with contracts
Enhance patient experience through service improvement initiatives
Deliver exceptional customer service using clear, compassionate communication.
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication and stays informed on departmental, facility and system updates.
May be required to travel to other Aspirus locations.
Performs other duties as assigned within unit's scope of service.*
Required Education:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent or be participating in a Wisconsin Sponsored Pharmacy Tech Youth Apprentice program and be at least 16 years of age.
Required Experience:
Customer Service Experience.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience in healthcare or pharmacy setting. Comfortable with technology and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Required Credentials:
Michigan: Temporary license required before first day; full license within 365 days and continuously maintained by employee.
Minnesota: Active Pharmacy Technician Registration required before first day and continuously maintained by employee.
Wisconsin: Pharmacy Technician Registration application must be completed before first day and fully obtained within six (6) months and continuously maintained by employee.
